Astronomer CEO Andy Byron Resigns Following Viral Coldplay Kiss Cam Drama: 'Our Leaders are Expected to Set the Standard'

The company's board of directors accepted Andy Byron's resignation, according to a statementNEED TO KNOW Astronomer CEO Andy Byron has resigned from his position with the tech company following the drama surrounding the viral Coldplay concert kiss cam The company's board of directors accepted the resignation, according to a statement shared on July 19 Cofounder and Chief Product Officer Pete DeJoy is currently serving as interim CEOAndy Byron, the CEO of Astronomer, has resigned from his position with the tech company following the drama surrounding the viral Coldplay concert kiss cam. After a couple went viral for their reaction to being spotted at the Gillette Stadium show in Foxboro, Mass., on Wednesday, July 16, a company spokesperson told PEOPLE on Friday, July 18, that Byron was "placed on leave" and cofounder and Chief Product Officer Pete DeJoy was serving as interim CEO. The tech company announced in an update on X on Saturday, July 19, that Byron "has tendered his resignation," and the board of directors has "accepted" it. "As stated previously, Astronomer is committed to the values and culture that have guided us since our founding," Astronomer's latest statement read. "Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability, and recently, that standard was not met." "The Board will begin a search for our next Chief Executive as Cofounder and Chief Product Officer Pete DeJoy continues to serve as interim CEO," the statement continued. "Before this week, we were known as a pioneer in the DataOps space, helping data teams power everything from modern analytics to production AI. While awareness of our company may have changed overnight, our product and our work for our customers have not," added the statement. "We're continuing to do what we do best: helping our customers with their toughest data and AI problems." Byron's resignation comes just days after the concert moment went viral on social media. In the footage, a couple — who were not identified — could be seen, with a man wrapping his arms around a woman. After apparently realizing that they were on camera, the woman covered her face, while the man ducked down out of sight. The reactions prompted Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin to joke that they might be having an 'affair." "Oh, look at these two,' Martin, 48, said to the crowd as the couple hid. "All right, c'mon. You're okay.' The musician then added: "Oh, what? Either they're having an affair or they're just very shy.' Per The Guardian, Martin attempted to address what went down later in the show as well. 'Holy s---,' he reportedly told the stadium crowd. 'I hope we didn't do something bad.' Astronomer previously wrote on LinkedIn that its board "initiated a formal investigation into this matter" and would "have additional details to share very shortly," reiterating that its "leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability." The company did not explicitly confirm the identities of anybody in the video at the time, and reported that statements made about "other employees" being present at the concert and featured in the video were incorrect. Citing a source, Axios reported this week that the company's public response was delayed "due in part to Byron's slow resignation and exit package negotiations." The company's spokesperson had no comment on the Axios story when reached by PEOPLE, and Byron has not responded to separate messages seeking comment. Efforts to reach the woman in the footage were previously unsuccessful. Read the original article on People Solve the daily Crossword

Coldplay kiss cam scandal sends Astronomer CEO to resign —and the internet into a frenzy

ALBAWABA - Coldplay kiss cam drama unexpectedly exposes tech CEO's alleged affair scandal. This week, a bad kiss cam moment from a Coldplay performance went viral on social media. This brought attention to a small IT company that not many people had heard of. 'On the plus side, we've all heard of Astronomer now, right?' A head of digital marketing in San Francisco named Liz Leslie wrote on LinkedIn. People were searching Google for "What is an astronomer?" a lot after the company's CEO, Andy Byron, was seen making out with Chief People Officer Kristin Cabot on the jumbotron at Gillette Stadium outside of Boston. Chris Martin, lead singer of Coldplay, said from the stage, "Either they're having an affair, or they're just very shy." The astronomer revealed that Byron is married. The little-known IT company became well-known by the end of the week. Astronomer said in a statement on Friday that its board had started a formal review into the matter and that they would have more information to share soon. "We expect our leaders to set the standard for behavior and responsibility," it said. Later, the company said that Byron had been put on leave and that Pete DeJoy, co-founder and chief product officer, was taking over as CEO. That being said, what does an astronomer do? For businesses that want to use AI, it offers an important but often overlooked part: the infrastructure that lets them connect their data to the apps where they need to use it. It said it had worked with Apple, Ford, and Uber. PitchBook says that Astronomer was started in 2018 and had received $375.13 million from investors as of May. More than 300 people work for the New York-based business. Bain Capital Ventures, Insight Partners, and Salesforce Ventures are some of the investors. Companies that don't have a good handle on their own data may not be able to benefit much from AI. This means that better solutions are needed in this area. The trend is shown by Salesforce's $8 billion purchase of Informatica and Snowflake's $250 million purchase of Crunchy Data. The astronomer said that one of its benefits is that it works with Apache Airflow, an open-source tool that many businesses use to manage their data pipelines. What will happen with Coldplay? Will it help or hurt the company's chances in data orchestration? We will have to wait and see. 'While the visibility puts a spotlight on who Astronomer is, this is not usually the kind of publicity that brings in new customers,' said Peter Davenport, senior strategic consultant at brand, marketing, and communications specialist Definition. "In fact, it could hurt the trust and authority that have been built up over many years, especially in fields where trustworthiness and reputation are very important."

Tech CEO and HR boss suspended after Coldplay embrace goes viral

The tech chief executive and his employee allegedly caught in an intimate embrace on a 'kiss cam' at a Coldplay concert that went viral have been put on leave by their company. Kristin Cabot, the head of human resources at the tech company Astronomer, was identified as the woman cuddling with a man identified as Andy Byron, the company's chief executive, when she appeared on the jumbotron at Boston's Gillette Stadium. Chris Martin, the Coldplay frontman, can be heard saying 'oh, look at these two,' as they appear on the screen, only for Cabot to quickly cover her face and turn away while Byron ducks to avoid the cameras. The British singer reacted saying: 'Either they're having an affair or they're very shy' as the 60,000-strong crowd cheered and laughed. A TikTok video of the moment went viral, amassing more than 50 million views since it was uploaded late on Wednesday night. Astronomer, a software start-up, released a statement on Friday. 'Astronomer is committed to the values and culture that have guided us since our founding,' it read. 'Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability. The board of directors has initiated a formal investigation into this matter and we will have additional details to share very shortly.' Axios reported that the company's delayed response had been due in part to Byron's slow resignation and exit-package negotiations. Online, empathy for the pair and their families was mixed with snarky commentary and countless memes, with a fake statement from the chief executive generating a lot of additional vitriol. Savvy merchandise sellers sought ways to make money from the scandal:one Etsy seller offering a T-shirt that read 'I Took My Sidepiece To The Coldplay Concert And It Ruined My Life'. In the past 24 hours, more than 22,000 news articles were written about Astronomer and roughly 9,000 were written about Byron, according to Muck Rack data. More than 15 million people had read about the moment, Memo found, noting average readership on the topic was as high as the P Diddy trial, the feud between Elon Musk and President Trump the death of Pope Francis. Amid the online firestorm it emerged that Cabot had previously boasted about her ability to 'build trust with CEOs'. Cabot had praised Byron on LinkedIn when she joined Astronomer in November and boasted she 'leads by example and win(s) trust with employees of all levels, from CEOs to managers to assistants'. Byron called Cabot 'exceptional'. Cabot was previously married to Kenneth Thornby, but they divorced in 2022, according to Massachusetts marriage records. Megan Kerrigan Byron, Byron's wife, appeared to remove his surname from her name on her Facebook account before deactivating the page. Byron has been chief executive of Astronomer, a New York City-based data orchestration platform that 'empowers data teams to bring mission-critical analytics, AI and software to life', since 2023. On Friday, hundreds of users on LinkedIn posted Coldplay lyric puns on his profile in a pile-on the like of which is more common on X or Facebook than the social network for jobseekers and aspiring thought leaders. 'Lights did not guide Andy home,' one comment read. Grace Springer, the Coldplay fan who filmed the video, told The Sun on Friday that she 'had no idea who the couple was' and felt bad about revealing their alleged cheating. She said she hopes 'their partners can heal from this and get a second chance at the happiness they deserve with their future still in front of them'.
